This is a Social Media 101 post that I’ll use to compile a list of the biggest sites on the social media scene for reference. Enjoy:
Social Media Content Tools - Use these to research social media topics.
- Technorati – The biggest blog directory. Focused on latest posts.
- Google Blogsearch – Google gone blog.
- BlogPulse – Who is saying what about you?
- BlogPulse Trend – What is the trend of terms over time
Blog Sites (yes, I know there are lots but these are early and active sites):
- Boing Boing- Random Directory of Wonderful Things
- Social Media Today – Thinking on Social Media and Web 2.0
- Mashable – Social Media News and Doins’
- TechCrunch - Tech Startup News you can Use
Wiki Sites:
- Wikipedia – The mother of all Wiki’s – 100 million man hours into the collaborative encyclopedia
- One Laptop per Child – A great example of how to support a cause in a collaborative method.
- IBM Wikis – Big time geek wikis for developer. Obviously company supported and encouraged but a nice example of geeks gone wild.
Multimedia Sites for Sharing
- Flickr – photo sharing site
- Photobucket – also photo sharing site
- YouTube – the daddy of video sharing
- Seesmic - communicate/share via video. easier than YouTube
- Metacafe - video entertainment
Microblogging Services – (or, blogging for the ADD crowd)
- Twitter – Follow me (scottfasser)!
- Tumblr - Post and share anything
- Plurk – Social journal with cool timeline interface
- Seesmic – microblogging and video
Social Bookmark Tagging – Save this for later!
- Del.icio.us – yummy way to re-find sites.
- Stumble Upon – tag, chew, discover
- Sphinn – great for internet and social media marketers
- Digg – Vote (or Digg) favorite posts for fun and profit!
- Reddit – Hard to read popularity contest. I like Digg better.
Social Network Sites – Make a place for yourself online!
- MySpace - for kids and rock stars
- Facebook – for real people with fun
- AdGabber - ad folks
- LinkedIn – Serious Business
- Plaxo Pulse – Keeping your contacts updated
